There are many struggles of a reader. What book to read? When to read it? What kind of genre do I want? My biggest struggle is where? I can make the time and find the book, but I can never get comfortable while reading. My back starts hurting because of the way I’m sitting or lying. My hands start hurting because of the way I’m holding the book. Nothing ever seems to fit exactly right.
Here are some suggestions. If you are stuck at school reading and are sitting in a desk, sit up in your chair and have the book elevated on your desk somehow: held up by a notebook or another book. That way your neck won’t hurt from looking down and your back won’t hurt from slouching.
If you are at home, I suggest the couch. Sitting on the couch with a pillow behind your back or maybe behind your head will help your back and neck not hurt. Also having a pillow to hold up the book will take the pressure off of your hands and wrists.
Find your own way to sit while reading a book. These are just the ways that I have found work. They aren’t perfect and if you are reading for more than 20 minutes or so, as I often am, they may still cause some discomfort. Just move around and find the book reading position that fits best for you!
